  • Overview

    Performs complex cost accounting duties by analyzing financial data and implementing new costing methodologies, practices, and processes. This position is also responsible for company metrics, including trend and forecast reporting within the cost accounting function along with cost breakdowns and proposals for improvement.


    • Maintains cost accounting portion of the ERP system and computes and distributes standard labor, machine, tooling and overhead rates. Maintains rates and master data in cost accounting system, identifying and recommending areas for cost improvement.
    • Reviews and analyzes journal vouchers, labor, and material records and cost reports, reconciling and analyzing specific costs and variance accounts in the general ledger. Also prepares monthly inventory and variance journal entries.
    • Maintains accurate product cost information through analysis of cost standards.
    • Performs a general overview of manufacturing financial statements and prepares various reports summarizing and analyzing manufacturing data.
    • Researches historical cost data, prepares and analyzes reports on material purchases, labor, equipment, depreciation, repairs, operating expenses, and overhead.
    • Researches, analyzes, and evaluates alternative costing methodologies and makes recommendations on appropriate methods, processes, and practices to improve the overall costing environment.
    • Manages the implementation of improved costing methodologies and processes cross-functionally.
    • Assists with the month-end financial statement close with respect to matters of product costing.
    • Analyzes inventory increases/decreases and assists in the annual physical inventory and interim cycle count audits.


    • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and 5-7 years of work experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment; an MBA, CPA or CMA is desirable.
    • Demonstrates solid knowledge of cost accounting theory and principles.
    • Strong PC skills and established comfort level working with ERP systems.
    • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time and resources effectively.
    • Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
