  • Overview

    This position installs production machinery, troubleshoots, and routinely repairs machinery, which includes CNC/NC lathes and mills, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems. Incumbents also fabricate machine equipment, identify problems, and recommend solutions for layout and construction.


    • Installs new machines, aligning and adjusting for proper function, troubleshoots issues, and modifies machines as requested.
    • Maintains, rebuilds, repairs, cleans, and adjusts all types of production machinery (including ball screws and high speed spindles) throughout production departments. Fabricates machine equipment, orders or fabricates repair parts for production machines per blueprints, sketches, or verbal descriptions, and maintains records of repair and preventative maintenance.
    • Interprets maintenance layout schematics, identifies problems in layout and construction, and recommends solutions. Troubleshoots CNC/NC (including replacement of modular electronic parts) and all other production machinery as needed, and visualizes how load forces are applied for weld structure (to develop physical strength in hoist beams, etc.).
    • Applies basic metallurgy in welding and machine maintenance, recommends types of material for use in maintenance and fabrication work, recommends/constructs solutions to resolve safety or hazardous waste concerns, and determines what parts to order.
    • Performs electrical maintenance and modifications that do not require the services of a journeyman electrician.
    • Loads, unloads, and moves machinery as requested.
    • Assists in training less experienced Machine Maintenance Mechanics, and may serve as a liaison to other departments.
    • Follows all safety guideline, maintains an acceptable dependability level, and routinely uses a computer system to obtain information.


    • Generally requires approximately 10 years of relevant work experience with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic machine installation and repair. There is an emphasis on the ability to repair and maintain CNC/NC equipment.
    • Must possess a current Limited Maintenance Electrician (LME) license.
    • Demonstrated ability to design and build electrical, manufacturing and safety equipment, and fabricate parts from blueprints, sketches and verbal descriptions.
    • Ability to effectively use standard hand and measuring tools to measure work, along with the ability to perform mathematical calculations to calibrate machines and fabricate parts. 
    • Experience with fabrication (including brazing, materials, and rod usage), MIG, TIG, and Gas welding required with the ability to sketch ideas for parts fabrication and machine repairs.
    • Must be able to read, write, and communicate work information in English with a demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal instructions and troubleshoot problems when necessary. Must also be able to interpret parts books used in this position.
    • Ability to use computer information systems effectively, and to implement new ideas and changes.
    • Must either hold HazMat certification or become certified within the first year of employment. All required licensure must be maintained and kept up to date.
