    This position is responsible for technical communications products that effectively support dental facility planning/visualization, installation, use, maintenance, and service for A-dec products in all supported languages. The Technical Communications Manager provides leadership to develop timely, accurate, easily accessed, and easily understood technical communications products that are verified to meet industry regulatory requirements and validated to meet user needs.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide vision, direction, and leadership to the Technical Communications team.
    • Define, manage, and communicate the long and short-term strategies for developing and delivering high quality, on-time technical communications products.
    • Lead the ongoing redesign of technical communications products to match current product development strategy and user needs.
    • Assess and update information pertaining to development, management, and delivery strategies; lead software tools selection, process development, and implementation.
    • Ensure that technical communication products meet quality standards and satisfy regulatory, legal, and product liability standards.
    • Collaborate with other functional leaders to scope, prioritize, and plan product development and sustaining projects.
    • Ensure that the Technical Communications team develops, publishes, maintains, and meets negotiated schedules for prioritized product development and sustaining project schedules.
    • Ensure that requirements of worldwide employees, customers, dealers, and other support personnel are understood and incorporated into Technical Communications products, and those products are validated as required.
    • Manage department and project budgets, and ensure objectives are met by thoroughly planning, monitoring, and controlling department expenditures.
    • Manage professional services supplier selection and working relationships, ensure timely engagement for project support, and oversee all supplier work.
    • Drive increased efficiency across the Technical Communications team to eliminate duplication, leverage product and technology reuse, and reduce translations and other external costs.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in technical communications marketing, journalism, or other relevant discipline plus 12 years of experience in the technical communications field and 7 years managing in technical communications or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
    • Demonstrated ability to create a vision and lead a technical communications team including hiring and staffing, development, and performance management.
    • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
    • Ability to work independently, collaborate with individuals at all levels, and in a team environment.
    • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time and resources effectively.
    • Experience managing teams in development of a variety of communications methods such as printed and PDF documents, help topics, animated/video instructions, knowledge management sites, 3D planning/visualization models, phone aps, interactive content, etc.
    • Experience developing and maintaining technical communications product development and approval processes that meet requirements for medical devices.
    • Working knowledge of user experience methodologies to gather and refine customer requirements, evaluate draft/prototype solutions, and validate communications products.
    • Experience with user testing, gathering customer requirements and making recommendations on product usability and knowledge of general usability principles.
    • Knowledge of current technical communications trends, best practices, and solutions for content development, management, translation, reuse, and delivery.
    • Successful experience leading implementation of current information development technologies and processes such as structured authoring, single sourcing, and animation.
    • Experience with current project management methodologies and tools that effectively support many simultaneous projects.
